About Conker’s Lodge

Conker’s Lodge is a family owned self-catering luxury lodge (new 2021), that sleeps 5-6 guests in 3 cosy well-equipped bedrooms, with multiple bathrooms, a well equipped kitchen, first class views, and access to amazing on-site facilities if guests wish to use those for a small discounted hotel/resort fee.

Straight ahead there is utility room which includes a washing machine, tumble dryer and toilet.

To the left, there is a large high-ceilinged kitchen /diner/living area lounge that opens up onto a wrap-around deck overlooking a stunning golf course, miles of Devonian views, and benefitting from beautiful west facing sunsets. Three large sofas and a dining room table with 6 chairs enable guests to choose their relaxation spot of choice. This may be reading a book, playing games or enjoying the 52 inch TV.

To the right, a fully carpeted hallway leads to 3 bedrooms in the separate sleeping area. Bedroom1 has a super king size bed together with extensive wardrobe space, a separate flat screen TV, and an ensuite shower room. Bedrooms 2 and 3 are both twin room, each with wardrobe facilities and views onto the landscaped gardens which surround Conker’s Lodge. There is then a large family bathroom including substantial walk-in shower.

You could of course stay instead at the hotels (as we did for many happy holidays for three decades before finding Conker’s Lodge!) which offer full board and all the activities inclusively…but Conker’s Lodge can give you a balance of some hotel activity when desired, alongside self-catering in luxury and some well-deserved peace & privacy.

This is because our lodge comes with unique discounted and local access (less than 5 mins drive to both hotels, 15 minutes walk across the Oakwood golf course) to ALL the facilities at both the Manor and Ashbury Hotels.

The hotels offer awesome world-renowned golf (5 COURSES!), rackets (incl. tennis, badminton, table tennis, squash, indoor padel and pickleball), shooting, snooker, over 15 tutored crafts, 2x spas and 2x swimming pools.

With a stay at Conker’s, you can choose to access all or some of the above for a small daily or weekly fee (payable to the hotel), all whilst waking up each day to look out over miles and miles of views across a beautiful part of North/West Devon…Perfect.

Guest access

Conker’s Lodge main entrance is on a flat decked pathway, so provides easy access for those with access needs.

The lodge is equipped with dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer, plus hairdryer, heated wardrobes (for drying out wet or damp golf or walking shoes), a selection of board games, and a travel cot and high-chair for younger guests.

There are full binstore and separate recycling facilities provided next to the car park.

Although we have on rare occasions received requests from guests to bring a dog, because there are strict rules at the Ashbury Resort about dogs, and as there is no enclosed garden at Conker’s Lodge (meaning any dogs have to be kept on a lead at all times if outside of the decking), these tend to be rare, and approval has been agreed only on a case-by-case basis and for small dogs only also.

Other things to note

Our many guests since 2022 have praised Conker’s Lodge for its luxurious, relaxing setting, for how well equipped it is for self-catering, and because it comes with discounted access to participate in all of the facilities and activities at both the Manor and Ashbury hotels (particularly for keen golfers, for whom it works out at just £20 per day (as at January 2025) to enjoy unmatched choice and quality of golf courses).

Some visitors have used the lodge as a base to visit the wider Devon/Cornwall area; others to specifically visit Bude and its beaches; some to walk on Dartmoor; others to watch the Exeter Chiefs or to enjoy live music at Tavistock Wharf; to take part in local parkruns (Okehampton, Tamar, Haldon Forest nr Exeter); or just to host or visit family & friends based in the local Okehampton area or at Exeter University.

Just off the A3079, directly overlooking one of FIVE golf courses (the Oakwood), with easy marked parking.

Getting around

It is just a short walk (15 minutes/1km across the golf course) or drive (2 mins, turn right) from Conker’s Lodge to the Ashbury Golf Hotel.

It is also a very short drive (5 mins, turn left) from Conker’s Lodge to the Manor House Sports & Craft Hotel.

Okehampton and Sourton (for walking on Dartmoor) are each less than 10 minutes drive away (turn left).

Bude (turn right) and Tavistock & Exeter (turn left) are each approximately 30 minutes drive away.
